Itunes/ Week 12

http://www.learnoutloud.com/content/blog/archives/2007/07/best_of_itunes.html

ITunes University is a new program that itunes has developed. In various Universities throughout the country, students are able to download homework and lectures straight from their own computer. Stanford and Duke are just two of the participating schools. As we know from Blog eleven, Duke has been one of the major schools contributing to the ipod frenzy.
Learning through technology is much more important these days. Schools are progressing with the students now. Hopefully more schools will start catching on to the growing epidemic of ipod learning. Students are responding with enthusiasm and relief.
I believe that by using itunes and ipods for the classroom will help students be more excited about school. They will not only bring their ipod for musical purposes, but they can use it for learning as well. Itunes is learning that so many people get online and download, that they have made lectures from certain schools accessible to students. Hopefully other schools will allow it too.

Ipods/ Week 11

http://www.dukenews.duke.edu/2005/12/ipodupdate.html

Duke University expects many of it's students to bring along ipods to the classroom to inhance learning. Lectures and homework assignments are able to be seen on a student's ipod. Duke is participating in an experiement of new technological advances for learning in higher education. The freshman students in 2004, were given ipods for certain classes and since then the ipod usage has been an extreme hit.
I think that using Ipods in the classroom is a good idea. Many students own one anyway, and incorporating learning into them, will help them excel in their studies. I ,for one, would appreciate technological advances in our classrooms. Ipods are a great way to spread information and learning.

Dr. Alice/ Week 10

From Dr. Alice's reviews and experiences, it is easy to see that her educational instruction is extraordinary. She, as an instructor, is confident and well-informed. Many future teachers could learn from her views. She has influenced this site by giving her expertise in web design and her own teaching abilities.
I personally liked the information on the web design section. I believe that with the new and improved technology that web design is very important. Without a computer in the classroom, children will not be able to learn as much as possible. These days, almost every household contains a computer, and I believe that it is crucial to instill computer skills and web design skills in children.

Wiki / Week 9

Wikipedia is a site known to many Internet goers. Most people also know that Wikipedia is not a reliable source for writing papers or factual information. It has a magnificent amount of information, but this site also allows people to tamper with that information. Although much written on Wikipedia may be true, not knowing the source of what's written or where it came from can be unwise.
It is possible to look up who has written on Wikipedia. But even with all of this, it is probably still advisable to check others sources for the information. I am not sure if Wikipedia will ever truly be a reliable source, but it is a way to have access to many facts or opinions throughout the internet.

180 days response/ week8

On the April blog on Fishbowl, it talks about classes in college and whether or not they are used fully. Whether changes should occur in schools by giving a presentation to students and letting them discuss this view, or if the 180 days of class are actually benefiting students. By listening to the presentation, one would infer that some changes might need to be made to certain aspects of the curriculum. One student offered the idea of random "films" in the classroom to give their classmates something different. Lectures and slide shows are not going to always captivate young minds.
I believe that this presentation would be nice to experience. I would truthfully like to change certain things in the curriculum. Do we really need "core" classes when we already took them in high school. Are lectures and non-hands on practices really the way to teach? I would prefer certain projects or student to student teaching and learn from experience. I think that their idea is very important and should be considered.

Fischbowl response/ week7

The blog, by Karl Fisch, talks about whether teachers today must be technologically literate. Do they have to know how to use a computer properly? Should all teachers consider learning immediately if they do not have any technological abilities? He says yes. The teachers must be able to do what they teach. Teachers who are not able to understand what they are teaching may not be good role models in technology for the younger generations. Kindergarten children already know how to use computers, the teachers themselves must be able to as well.
I agree with Karl. Teachers must be able to understand the information that they give to their students. I think that some teachers are a little late in learning technological skills and therefore must learn quickly or get run over by their own students. The point of a teacher is to inform children of things they usually don't already know, or prune the things that they do know about. If a teacher knows nothing of technology, how will the students learn at all? Technology is a huge part of school now and teachers must know about it.

International Blogs/week6

Teachers use blogs internationally. The Internet is the easiest place for people to keep in contact and ask for advice quickly. Teachers all around the world have access to the Internet and are able to create blogs for all different purposes.
eTwinning is a teacher and student blog that allows each person to talk internationally. Students and teachers meet foreign people with the same interests and ideas. By using this site, people can communicate about their school or about their own teaching methods. They also can just simply make new friends.
I came across one of the English blog sites also. These blogs, blog.co.uk/, mostly talk about their teaching experience and how they are coping with it. It talks of their classroom differences then we have here in the USA. Many different schools and teachers publish blogs here.
Blogs are amazingly popular throughout the world. People love to vent, talk, and communicate to others through these sites. Aren't blogs wonderful?

k12 Blogs/week5

Blogs are able to be used by almost all ages to express thoughts, feelings, and even ideas. Teachers also use these for various reasons. They can help students express themselves or provide another way of communicating for teachers.
On education.com I found an article on a Mr. John Pearson. He is a third grade teacher from Dallas, Texas who uses blogs. He explains in his blogs about teaching and how it has effected him in his every day life. He mentions reactions children have to things and what to expect in the classroom. This is one way to use blogs.
Another blog I came across is from a teacher/ student in California asking for help with her class. This blog site on teacherlingo.com is a place where many teachers come and inquire for help. This particular teacher needs a survey answered. Blogs are where people can reach out for help and give help in return.
These are only a couple of ways to use blogs. It can be used in anyway that requires communication and assignments can even be given on blogs. Blogs are used throughout the world everyday for many different things!

The FILM/week4

I found the film to be incredibly interesting. It was amazing to see how much the computer effects our lives everyday. It only took four years for the computer to spread, while it took the television more then ten. People can keep in contact with others through the internet even when the other person is across the globe. Information available on the internet keeps multiplying every year.
Almost everyone owns a computer. Many four years olds know how to use one. The computer is an extreme part of the world and is used for just about everything. Also from this video, it appears that people's work ethic has declined in the US. Many people will have more than ten jobs in their life before age thirty eight. Does technology such as the internet cause such changes in people? Does it cause them to become more lazy? Maybe.

ACCESS etc./week3

The ACCESS website, which is short for the Alabama Connecting Classroom, Educators and Students Statewide site, provides students with good quality course through technology. It also helps people find high-standard teachers. This website contains ways to improve grade standards, course options, and student involvement. It has a mission to give students and teachers a better way to learn and teach.

ACCESS wants to give better technology to all schools in need. It provides an option for students to experience the computer like never before. Not only does it provide wonderful courses, it also contains a way for schedules to be made, awards to be given, and new aquanitances produced. ACCESS is an excellent site for all students and teachers to visit for a better understanding of how advanced placement can be done online.

Students can feel more important and developed through this site. Although their school mite not offer a certain course, this site probably does offer it. No student will be left behind, or will feel like they are slacking.

Teachers who are able to do so, can also have access to ACCESS and provide the necessary lessons for these students. Lectures and notes are easily given from this site. ACCESS is a great way for improvement!

ALEX etc./week2

ALEX, also known as Alabama Learning Exchange is a magnificent site for teachers to visit. It explains many teaching options and study skills. Through ALEX, teachers are able to look at each subject and grade level. By doing so, they can find ways to improve their classroom and teaching methods.
For example, clicking on course of study and then mathematics, one can further choose which grade level and proceed to read certain math techniques. From this page, a teacher can receive ideas of how to explain math to a young child. Using pictures, stories, or colors are just some of the options.
Furthermore, lesson plans are also provided and helpful books are also listed. Options to select certain schools are also helpful on the ALEX site. Using this site would increase teacher awareness and understanding of the subject they teach. It contains various hints for good teaching and explains each lesson plan thoroughly.
Another good thing about ALEX is that it gives other sites to visit. One might want other opinions of lesson plans, teaching, etc. and ALEX offers that. It is a very good tool for teachers to use while in the classroom and outside of it. From this site teachers can also learn about special education and other forms of teaching.

About Catherine :)/week1

Hello!
My name is Catherine Bullock. I went to McGill Toolen High School and I am currently a Junior at South Alabama. I am from Mobile, but for my first two years of college I attended Southern Miss. At Southern I was in a Sorority called Alpha Delta Pi. I had a great time at Southern Miss, but I am glad that I made the choice to return home. My major is Elementary Education, and I'm sticking with this one! I've changed my major from Nutritionist, to Graphic Design, and now Teaching. I'm very excited about becoming a teacher. I love children and I believe that I will succeed in helping them grow.

Right now, I work at Corpus Christi Preschool. I love my job, which is a first! I basically take care of small children for four hours a day. Outside of school and work, I like to draw/paint, play guitar, travel, and just hang out with friends. I recently just purchased a 2003 MINI Cooper, and I LOVE IT! Its dark green and is a manual, which I just learned to drive two weeks ago! I have one sister who attends McGill. She is also a Junior. The rest of my family except for my dad and grandparents live here in Mobile.

Besides graduating from college, I hope to eventually get married (hopefully to my current boyfriend, we'll see how that goes!) and raise a family. I also want to travel the world. I've been to many cities in Switzerland, Paris, and London. It was absolutely amazing and I'm really looking forward to going back. I'm taking German right now, just so I can communicate better with certain Europeans!

More random stuff: I just turned 21 on Aug4th, that was an absolute BLAST! My MINI was my present to myself, haha. I'm a Leo and my favorite color is light blue. I also have naturally curly hair. I don't eat RED meat. I love movies and books. I'm looking forward to this year and I know it's going to be a good one!

Thanx for reading about me :)
